What makes you trust a lawyer after the first conversation?

Hey forum folks. I have a question that’s been on my mind for a while. I’ve spoken to a couple of lawyers recently, and while they all sound confident, I struggle to understand who I can actually trust. Some talk fast, some promise quick results, and others are very cautious — which is confusing in its own way. For those of you who’ve had positive experiences, what made you think, “Okay, this person knows what they’re doing”? Was it their explanations, their attitude, or just a feeling? I’d love to hear real-life examples, because right now choosing a lawyer feels harder than the legal problem itself.

Great question — I asked myself the same thing not long ago. For me, trust came down to how the lawyer handled my questions. The one I ended up working with didn’t rush me, didn’t interrupt, and actually asked follow-up questions that showed they were paying attention. They also pointed out potential downsides instead of selling me a perfect outcome, which oddly made me trust them more. Later, while researching on my own, I came across a platform that follows a similar transparent approach https://advocate-ie.com Everything was clearly structured, no vague promises, just practical explanations. In my experience, if a lawyer makes you feel informed rather than pressured, you’re probably on the right track.
