Welcome to Week 39! Your baby is about the size of a mini watermelon, measuring around 20 inches long and weighing about 7–7.5 pounds. They’re officially full-term—fully developed and just spending these final days (or weeks) getting chubbier and stronger.
What’s Happening in Your Body?
Baby’s brain and lungs are still maturing, even at this late stage. Their immune system is building up extra strength, and they’re continuing to gain fat, which helps regulate body temperature after birth.
They’re probably in a head-down position, pressed low into your pelvis. Their movements may feel slower and more like strong nudges, stretches, or pushes, but they should still be regular and noticeable every day.
For you, your body is in full prep mode for labor. Your cervix may be softening and dilating gradually (though you may not feel it). Braxton Hicks contractions might come more often, and you may notice new aches or twinges as labor approaches.
Common Symptoms This Week
Pelvic pressure or sharp twinges as baby presses on nerves
More Braxton Hicks contractions—stronger but still irregular
Back pain, hip pain, or sciatica
Swelling in feet, hands, or face (mild swelling is normal)
Vaginal discharge changes, possibly with a “bloody show”
Frequent bathroom trips, even more now!
Trouble sleeping—from discomfort and anticipation
Impatience—you’re so ready to meet your baby!
And yes, you might overanalyze every little cramp, thinking this could be it.
What You Can Do This Week
