Week 15

Baby Can Sense the World (a Little)

Week 15

Week 15 is here, and your little one is about the size of an kiwi—around 4 inches long and weighing about 2.5 ounces. While you might still feel like you’re just waiting for big milestones, your baby is already sensing their tiny world in new ways.

What’s Happening in Your Body?

Baby’s hearing is developing, meaning they may start to sense your voice and the rhythm of your heartbeat. Their eyes are still fused shut, but they can detect light. Tiny taste buds are forming, and their bones are getting stronger every day.

Inside your belly, baby’s practicing swallowing amniotic fluid—an important step in learning how to breathe later. And if you could peek inside, you’d see more defined baby features—ears, nose, chin, even a bit of fine hair on their head.

For you, the second trimester sweet spot might be in full swing.

Common Symptoms This Week

  • A small but noticeable bump (especially if this isn’t your first pregnancy)

  • More energy than you’ve had in weeks

  • Less nausea—though some may still linger

  • Congestion or stuffy nose (hello, pregnancy rhinitis!)

  • Round ligament pain—mild stretching or twinges as your uterus grows

  • Skin changes—the “glow,” darkening areolas, or the faint start of a linea nigra (a vertical belly line)

And you might feel the tiniest fluttering—like bubbles or butterflies in your belly. These early movements (called quickening) are easy to miss, but they’ll get stronger in the weeks ahead.

What You Can Do This Week

  • Start talking or singing to your baby—they may begin to recognize your voice!

  • Stay active with safe, low-impact exercise like walking or prenatal yoga

  • Keep drinking plenty of water—it helps with digestion, swelling, and overall health

  • Book your mid-pregnancy anatomy scan (usually done around 18–20 weeks)

  • Moisturize your skin if it’s starting to feel itchy or tight as your belly grows

And if you want a simple way to note what you’re feeling—physically and emotionally—apps like Cubtale can help you keep a gentle log of your journey.

Real Talk

Week 15 is a sweet in-between. You’re far enough along to feel like this is real, but still early enough that it might not be obvious to everyone around you. You might find yourself reaching for maternity clothes, but you’re not fully “showing” yet.

It can feel strange—like you’re in a secret club only you know about. Some days you’re buzzing with excitement; other days, you’re just tired of waiting for the next big milestone. Both feelings are completely normal.

So breathe. Enjoy this little pause before baby’s kicks get stronger and plans get busier.
