Week 20

Halfway There!

Week 20

You’ve officially reached the halfway mark! At Week 20, your baby is about the size of a mango—around 6.5 inches long and weighing about 10.5 ounces. This is a huge milestone, and for many parents, it’s one of the most exciting weeks so far.

What’s Happening in Your Body?

Baby’s developing more fat to help regulate their body temperature after birth, and their skin is becoming less see-through. Their movements are stronger now—kicks, flips, and rolls are happening more often, and you’re more likely to feel them regularly.

This week is also when many parents have their mid-pregnancy anatomy scan, where you’ll see baby in detail—organs, bones, fingers, toes, even tiny facial features. If you want to know the sex of the baby, this is usually when it can be seen clearly.

For you, your uterus is now level with your belly button, and your bump is officially a full-on bump.

Common Symptoms This Week

  • Regular baby kicks—stronger and more noticeable now

  • Backaches or pelvic pressure as your body adjusts

  • Round ligament pain (yes, still happening!)

  • Heartburn or indigestion as your uterus presses on your stomach

  • Leg cramps or varicose veins from increased blood flow

  • Dry or itchy skin as it stretches

But overall, many people still feel pretty good in the second trimester—more energy, better sleep, and a bit more confidence in their growing belly.

What You Can Do This Week

  • Go to your anatomy scan—it’s a big one!

  • Start noticing baby’s movement patterns, though they’ll still be a bit random

  • Keep eating balanced meals—baby’s growth is about to speed up

  • Do gentle stretching or prenatal yoga to help with aches and improve posture

  • Sleep with a pregnancy pillow if you’re having trouble getting comfy at night

And if you want a special way to record this halfway milestone, take a bump photo and jot down a few notes in an app like Cubtale—you’ll love looking back later.

Real Talk

Week 20 feels like a real turning point. Seeing your baby on the anatomy scan can be emotional, exciting, and even overwhelming. It can also bring new worries if you’re waiting on test results or just feeling the weight of everything to come.

You’re allowed to feel all of it—the joy, the fear, the impatience. You’re halfway through this incredible, challenging journey. Take a moment to be proud of yourself.

The best (and the biggest kicks) are yet to come.
